Molasses Spill off Honolulu & HHD

A tragic molasses spill off the coast of Honolulu by Matson on September 9th, 2013 has dumped 1,400 tons (approximately 233,000 gallons) of molasses into the water, causing devastation to the underwater ecosystem.  Thousands of fish and other marine animals have been washing onto shore, suffocating in the molasses.
Unlike oil, which remains at the top of the water and can be skimmed off to prevent full damage, molasses sinks to the bottom, causing mass destruction.  There is no man-made way that the molasses can be cleaned up.

Honu Hawaiian Diver Jeremy White got into the water to film the tragedy and his footage was aired on KHON2 and Good Morning America.
