Hawaiian Rock Fish & His Buddy

The HAWAIIAN ROCK DAMSELFISH is endemic to the islands, and is dark purple/brown with two narrow light vertical bars.  They typically remain in shallow water, in less than 15 feet and prefer to hang around the shallow surge zone.  They are often seen with a Gargantuan Blenny.  When they reproduce, their egg patches are laid in the open or on vertical rocks, and males become bright white on their dorsal area during bursts of aggression defending the eggs.  Schedule a dive with Honu Hawaiian Diving and look for these fish on your way in/out of the water on a shore dive!
